Art Engraving ("we", "us") is the data controller for personal data collected through artengraving.co.uk. We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect

  • Order details: name, delivery and billing address, email, phone number and order history.
  • Personalisation: the names, dates, text and photos you send us to engrave.
  • Payment: processed securely by Shopify Payments and our payment providers. We never see or store your full card details.
  • Website use: device and browser information, IP address and pages viewed, collected through cookies.
  • Messages: anything you send us by email, phone or our contact form.

Why we use it (and our lawful basis)

  • To make, engrave and deliver your order and handle returns — performance of a contract.
  • To keep accounting and tax records — legal obligation.
  • To prevent fraud and keep our website secure — legitimate interests.
  • To send marketing emails, only if you opt in — consent (you can unsubscribe at any time).
  • To measure and improve our advertising (for example Google Ads) using cookies — consent, given through our cookie banner.

Your photos and engraving details

Photos you upload are used only to create your engraving. We delete them 90 days after your order is delivered unless you ask us to keep them for a repeat order.

Who we share data with

We share only what is necessary with: Shopify (our e-commerce platform), our payment providers, Royal Mail (delivery), Google (analytics and advertising, with your consent), and our email service provider. We never sell your personal data.

International transfers

Some providers, such as Shopify and Google, may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations.

How long we keep it

Order and accounting records: 6 years (HMRC requirement). Engraving photos: 90 days after delivery. Marketing data: until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or transfer your personal data, and object to how we use it. Email us and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
